it’s not often you encounter something that totally rocks your world, renders you out of balance, makes your head spin like crazy, and causes you to be scared that much for the first time in your life (okay , well, not for the first time, but for the sake of exaggeration, just let this blooper go, hmkay?).

i stayed up all night (well, almost) because of that something. hell, i was already sleeping before it frikkin woke me up twice!

stupid bloody 6.7-intensity earthquake. who knew you could render me disoriented huh?

[Golden Week 2008] Nosebleed Sunday

Our building had to change gas companies and we scheduled the inspection/change for our unit today. Jemu’s not around so I had to “talk” with the gas man (ahahaha) regarding the change and all the chenes that comes with it.

Nosebleed!

I really really really need to study (again) nang hindi na sumasakit ang ulo ko kakausap sa mga Hapon.

################

[+] Suimasen, Jemu-san ima inai kara …
[-] Ah. Demo kono tokoro ni ha sunde imasu?
[+] Uh. Hai?
[-] Inai?
[+] Ima inai.
[-] I’m sorry, do you speak English?
[+] (Halleluiaaaaaah) YES!
[-] Ah (laugh laugh laugh) eeeh tooo…
[+] (Nasan na ang English?!) …

Nakalimutan ko yung katakana for N! Amfufu!

[Golden Week 2008] Lazy Saturday

this is just an attempt to wade through the sabaw that’s currently occupying the space in my cranium. oic while my brain is vacationing somewhere.

it’s a very lazy saturday — start of the much awaited golden week, actually. no jap class because our rakista pasyonista lola sensei is off to god-only-knows-where and no tennis-slash-whatever thing because the weather got screwy. i don’t have any back-up plans. tssss.

i have nothing to do. and no one to talk to. well, scratch that out, there are people everywhere but i just wanna keep to myself for a while and mull over some thoughts (after-shock from last night, i guess).

alright, so i’m actually following a storm pre-season game in sacto now but there’s no audio and it’s really hard to get yourself into the game if you’re just watching the scoreboard and the play-by-play. plus birdy and lj aren’t yet around and *ugh* i’m just so lethargic this morning.

wait, omfg, why is sacto leading? grrr. we were on top just a few seconds ago.

i didn’t see swoopes in the line-up. she’s not playing, i guess. swin’s been in there a time or two. k.gearlds, come on, show us that smooth shot. yoyoyo griffith, cool, you just tied the frikkin’ game. now, i know that brian agler doesn’t care about winning just yet and he’s trying out combinations blah blah blah but wouldn’t it be nice to see a WIN this early? and yeah yeah yeah, i get that sue and lauren aren’t still around, as well as jb, but hey, a little enthusiasm wouldn’t hurt, right? (i will not mention tanisha, i will not mention tanisha, i will not mention tanisha — gad, why on earth is she still in a storm jersey?).

swin just fouled someone and we’re now down 2. and now the rookie beck just fouled some monarch again. anubuzz.

amfufu, down 5. swin just turned the ball over. oh come on, swin! team timeout.

what to do what to do what to do?! might head out to some park to play volleyball with laizee. and i’ll prolly take noodles with me so i can finally take a shot of those (oh wait, a gearlds three! yey!) flowers (or damong ligaw) along the road heading to the nagayama-eki.

argh, this game is just too long. i’m already hungry. 55-55. who scored? who scored? damn html play-by-play is not refreshing. oh, wait, two free-throws for beck.

amf. (sacto) tangela “pocahontas” smith fadeaway. lech. come on, swin, katie, yo, ANYONE! bawiiiiii! alright, swin scored a hook, but a monarch had a jump shot, swin had a layup, and the same frikkin’ monarch had a jump shot again. amfufu where’s your defense, storm? and what the bloody hell — pocahontas for another jump shot. grrrrr.

oh wait — why on earth am i live-blogging an exhibition game anyway?

2 more minutes and then hello lunch! gearlds missed a three, shyra ely rebounds and then turns the ball over. a cash turnover, a pocahontas steal, an a.rob foul. i can’t wait for this game to be over. i’m really hungry. and now we’re down 8. two lawson free throws. team timeout short.

#############

i’ll peel my butt off my chair for the meantime and will just update this entry when i see the score later. gotta scourge for food.

just a random (yeah, right, random) thought:

ano ba ang tamang sagot sa tanong na “ano ang wala?“?

[#]: anong meron?
[~]: wala.
[#]: anong ang wala?
[~]: hala, papano ba sasagutin yang tanong na yan?

#############

oh, waittaminute, we were down 8 and now we’re just down 2? woohoo @ beck for that three. 15 seconds left. why isn’t there no frikkin’ audio?!

down four on kara lawson’s free throws. are we dropping two games in a row? find out later.

kennedy for three! down one now. but oh no, beck fouled someone. please let not someone be kara lawson.

(why on earth am i so invested in a preseason game? because i will miss the opening game, that’s why! stupid check-up, stupid lungs.)

six seconds. down one.

beck fouls again. pocahontas misses the first ft but sinks the second. we’re down two. 4 frikkin’ seconds. i wanna eat naaaa!

oh. it’s over. 68-70.

whatever. let’s move on. the world is still turning.

#############

speaking of the world is still turning shit, i remember reading a thread in peyups.com and i picked this little nugget from there:

[+] axis ka ba?
[-] huh?

what the hell di ba? sarap batuhin ng sapatos — ay no, i will not insult my shoes that way. will find another object to throw na lang.

amfufu.

osha, (late) lunch na.

Nakngtokwaaaaa!

3. Alas-ocho na kami nakalabas ng opis. Waaaaah. Nahilo pa ako sa kaka-scroll-up and scroll-down nung doc namin kanina sa projector.

4. Saizeria. Ang dami nung na-dinner namin, kakaloka.

5. Ano, Meemax? Tuloy natin yun!

6. OMFG, David Cook! You will always be a part of me, I’m part of you indefinitely. I’m fcukin’ singin’ a Mariah song! What on earth is happening to me?!

Napakahirap ang mawala sa Shinjuku-Eki,
napakaraming lilikuan, napakaraming dadaanan;

Eh etong Shinjuku ay isa sa busiest train stations in the world. Tsk.

Woohoo!

The rest of the snowman series can be found here.

Well, I came from a tropical country where the climate alternates between super-hot and irritatingly wet so I was really mesmerized by the whole Spring-Summer-Autumn-Winter thing. Well, summer — not so much. Lagi naman summer sa ‘Pinas. Plus I missed the recent summer here because I was cooped up inside the Jikei University Hospital [Private Gallery: Jikei Daisan Byouin Experience].

Anyway, SNOW! Haha. It’s just plain aesthetics, man. But it’s sort of magical to watch those white fluffy things fall down from the sky. Hay, I have nothing more to say. I’ve seen it. Moment over. Let’s get on with our merry lives.

Here are links to my first season cycle:

1. Spring – sakura (cherry blossoms) in full bloom for a week.
2. Summer – no pics argh.
3. Autumn – yellow leaves along Kotta river, enjoying the pretty colors at Mount Takao here and here and here.
4. Winter – First snow sighting ever. Took more pictures before all the white powdery goodness turned to slush.

It is 6:10 p.m. here in the Kudanshita Station in Tokyo. In a little while, my train will arrive. Good thing this one is not as crowded as the morning train or else I will lose whatever little amount of sanity I have left.

It comes and the doors open. I enter to mingle among the populace of this foreign country (foreign to me, at least). For a while I try to listen in on the conversations to familiarize myself. But as soon as I encounter a word that I don’t understand, I will stop and stare blearily at the darkness outside the windows (forgot to mention I’m riding a subway train).

We pass by stations one at a time (I forgot, once again, to add that this train is local therefore it stops at ALL stations along its route). When I get to my first norikae (transfer) station, I will get on the Express train.

Enduring again the long travel back home, I try to refocus my thoughts on why I am here. No one wants to go away for a long time. If I wanted to just get out of Manila, I would opt for a 3-month business trip. But no, fate or whatever it is presented me with something much much longer than 3 months. And what for? I’d like to think my reason is noble enough as I’d like to help my family (more like ‘had to help Ebut that’s another story). I’d also like to point out that there is absolutely no way in hell you’re earning this kind of money back home unless you’re a bigwig or something. Yeah. So those are the reasons why I’m still here in this blasted train fighting a losing battle against boredom. Hoooohummm.

Ah, the train arrives at Chofu and I must get off and transfer to the next platform if I do not want to repeat one of my newbie mistakes (I forgot to change trains at Chofu and ended up traveling along the wrong arm of the ‘V Eroute).

Squeezing my light frame into the extremely crowded Semi-Special Express train headed towards home, I fight the urge to gag. I’m sorry but I really do not relish spending an extended amount of time locked in a full train car with these people. It’s not being a racist or anything because every one of us has this certain smell that we just can’t tolerate. I am allergic to the smell of cigarette smoke and these people are fond of smoking. Meaning, I just can’t stand the smell and not the people (although sometimes it’s really hard to separate the two).

Fuchuu. Finally I get out of the crowded train and get into the local train waiting at the nearby platform. I try to blink several times to drive the weariness away but I can’t. Stress is part of the daily life of an IT engineer. And so I despondently sigh at the sight of my eye bags. The train finally moves and stops at Bubaigawara and then finally at my looooooooong-awaited destination.

While waiting in line to get out of the ticket gate, I briefly debate with myself whether I will go to the grocery or not. And because I’m already tired by the time I get to the station, I will opt once again for those microwaveable pastas in the sale section of the grocery.

The 12-minute walk from the station to the apartment I’m currently staying in provides ample time for thinking (as if the 1-hour train ride was not enough for such an arduous task). Well, whether you’d like to think or not, you have no choice but to do so. There are not so many people walking along the side-walks with you and the lights are spaced wide apart. Silence seems to be the theme in this side of the city as no noise could be heard. Not even the chirping of birds or the creepy night songs of creepy insects.

After a few mutterings of ‘ato sukoshi… EI finally catch sight of that white and grey striped building. Ah home. Well, at least for now. I unpack the stuff I bought from the grocery, stuff them into the fridge, microwave my dinner, eat said dinner in front of my laptop that I use as my TV slash movie screen.

And then midnight rolls in and I lie down staring at the ceiling above me, wondering just like last night if this venture out here in the unfamiliar jungles of Tokyo is worth all the loneliness. Homesickness kicks in at the worst possible times and it doesn’t come lightly. I must say it’s not often because well, I’ve been a fairly stoic person most of my life and I don’t think that will change save for some specific moments. But sadness does come in gigantic bursts that sometimes leave me with a gaping hole in my chest.

After a little while, I will feel the pull of Morpheus and I will spend a brief time planning the things I want to do when I get to go back to Manila next year before finally drifting off to sleep. Maybe I will even count the remaining months before that trip or roll my eyes at the prospect of what the following day will bring. I will bitterly laugh at the absurdity of my thinking because there’s little possibility of something exciting coming up. I will still be leaving Kudanshita at 6:11 pm tomorrow and I will still endure the long and lonely ride home.

*Sigh* Same old sad and boring ride back home. Who knows when this will end.
