I literally couldn’t breathe when I was listening to the game. The first half was just plain ugly. It sounded like a nightmare for the backcourt. And Maya Moore was nowhere. And Monty was bricking shots. And turnovers were piling up. And Swanier’s speed was working against her. And they were rushing shots.

But thank God for those FREE THROWS. And Charde Houston. And my favorite college backcourt (after Bird and Taurasi) for working so well during the 2nd half. And Maya Moore for that AWESOME THREE! Wooohooooo!

And now, Greensboro Regional Champs. Wahaha. And a date with Stanford in the Final Four.

Final Four Final Four Final Four

– Tennessee Lady Vols versus Louisiana State U Lady Tigers

– UConn Huskies versus Stanford Cardinals

I’m back in the game! Yehey!

I decided to just put up a mini-update area at the upper-left part of this blog coz I haven’t mustered enough gana to post about basketball (something’s really wrong with me). And the past two UConn games have been hohumm so far. Errr, no, I’m not asking for a super-down-the-wire and heart-stopping game but please, a little more excitement naman.

############

Fabulous Freshman Maya Moore is just awesome as always. 17Pts-8Rebs-3Asts-1Blk during the Cornell game and 24-and-12 on 10 for 15 shooting, 4 of 6 from downtown during the game against the Texas Longhorns.

Montgomery, Charles, and everybody else — wooohooo!

McLaren is a pretty sweet passer for a post player.

Charde Houston continues to perform since she was named Big East Tourney Player of the Year (or MVP, whatever).

############

OMG, I’m so excited na sa WNBA. Bball time! Woohoo! Ang saya naman kasi ng Bird – Swoopes – Cash – Jackson na team no!

############

And oh — another OMG. Sana tumuloy-tuloy na ang Huskies to the Final Four and beyoooooooond!

Fishhack found a link to one of the Spartak-Dynamo games this season. Anyone craving for some awesome WBB action, hop on to this page and enjoy the streaming vid.

But of course, me and my ever reliable google powers figured out how to download the whole thing. So if anyone’s interested, I have a 300MB file sitting inside my HD at home. Or maybe I can just tell you how to download streaming vids off the net. Or maybe you can just google it. Hee.

The new expansion team Atlanta Dream selected shooting guard Betty Lennox from the Seattle Storm and traded Roneeka Hodges and the #4 pick for wing-player Iziane Castro-Marques.

WTF were they smoking — leaving Betty unprotected?!

Okay fine, I’m not really a Betty fan but last year her game went up — better basketball IQ, better shot selection, more assists (when she couldn’t shoot). I’m not really sure what to think about this. I hope they get that kid Sidney Spencer. But asa pa ko haha. Waittaminute — she’s a Spark, isn’t she? Eeew.

Fishhack told me they are hoping to snag Candice Wiggins (Stanford) but she might be draft #3. Aaaay, my head is starting to ache.

They have many many things to do before the season starts in May.

(1) Find a kick-ass shooting guard. Or pressure Katie Gearlds into performing like the hotshot that she was at Purdue. She didn’t get enough minutes and opportunities last season.
(2) Find a decent wing(wo)man. I’m not really sure who’s sharing the 3 position with Izi — maybe KG din.
(3) Find a proper use for Tanisha “Turnover” Wright. Please do not put her in the back-up point guard spot.
(4) Keep A-Rob. We need more posts when Lauren goes to Aus for the OGs.

Waaaaaah, despite these moves, I’m still excited. Come on, May, dumating ka naaaaaa.

1201503535.jpgThe No.1 ranked Huskies let No. 16 Notre Dame hang around the first few minutes of the game and make defensive gimmicks on Maya Moore before UConn’s other weapons were used. Moore scored the first 15 points — 4 for 4 beyond the arc with a 4-point play thrown in (ah, the abundance of my favorite number). The Fighting Irish adjusted their defense and Maya didn’t score after that.

Enter Tina Charles who showed she can dominate with 22 monster points and 8 boards. Later in the game, Renee Montgomery came alive until the 12-minute mark and scored the first of her 12 second-half (and game) points, including the dagger three that snuffed any hope for the Fighting Irish.

But Ketia Swanier trumped everyone else as she kept the offense going and she glued the Huskies together with 11 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals in 32 minutes of play.

UConn won the game 81-64 and is now 19-0 over-all (6-0 Big East).

Up next: South Florida, January 30, 7PM EST

Last night I finally had the chance to peek over at UConnPhil’s videos. I was watching the highlights from recent UConn games and I finally got to see what the fuss over Maya Moore is all about. She literally defies awesome, man. The moves, the jumpshots, the rebounds, the whatever-else’s — all smooth and beautiful. Auriemma did a very good job in snagging her — despite the whole recruitment thing being enmeshed in that messy hullabaloo with Tennessee.

Anyway, Atlanta JC wrote about their favorite Georgia daughter Moore in this article. Maya Moore is definitely better than advertised.

The two-time national player of the year at Collins Hill is all New England’s now. A new Mayan culture is springing up around the 6-foot bundle of smooth. Granted, these people up here sure do talk funny, and they live part time in a meat locker, but they also take their women’s basketball seriously. It is a terrific place to build a legend, conveniently close to the myth-makers of New York City.

Somehow, Diana Taurasi comes to mind. But what the hell, for all we know she may even be better than Taurasi.
