30-Day Sports Meme : Day 11

Day 11  ELeast Favorite Sports Moment

No one wanted their favorite players (and even their most hated players) in pain. So my least favorite sports moment would be in 2004 when Birdy broke her nose less than three minutes into Game 2 of Seattle’s first-round series against Minnesota when she collided with Lynx Guard Teresa Edwards.

But just 48 hours~ removed from surgery, she dished out 14 assists during Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against Sacramento. So, you know, broken nose or not, Birdy’s really awesome.

Day 06  ETeams You Hate

Just like any proper Storm fan, I am predictably answering the Los Angeles SpOrks:

Day 05  EFavorite Basketball Team

I missed a day — here comes the excuse — because I was out sick, okay? Whatever, let’s just get on with it.

Anyway, there’s no other answer to this question but these girls:

Lauren Jackson, Tanisha Wright, Sue Bird, Swin Cash, and Camille Little

I love me some 2010 Seattle Storm! WNBA Champions, yeah!

Addendum: runner-up would be the following:

The above-pictured players comprised what supposedly was “The Perfect Storm” — the 2008 Seattle Storm. Too bad injuries got the better of them.

Day 04  EAthlete You Wish Played For Your Favorite Sports Team

I’m currently thinking if I want to jump on that Cambage bandwagon (I mean, she’s 6’8″) and want her for the Seattle Storm but I kinda like Camille and how she had worked so hard all these years and no, well, we can get Cambage, sure, but I won’t replace Camille Little.

So with that in mind, I’d probably want a solid enough point guard that will take a load off Sue so she won’t get tired so much and so I’d probably pick Lindsay Whalen.

She’s very physical and drives to the basket a lot and her style contrasts that of the finesse that Sue brings. That’s why I like the supposed combination.

Day 03  EAthlete(s) You Dislike/Hate

OMG, this is such an underhanded slap at me — I didn’t want to sully my blog with a single photo of My Pretty Pony, SpOrk personified, the biggest diva of all — Lisa Leslie.

But okay, since I’ve already started this meme thing, I guess I’ll just have to suck it up.

I won’t waste more words tryin’ to explain why I dislike her. She’s Lisa Freaking Leslie, you guys. Probably one of the whiniest divas in the W.

(I’m sure Miss Leslie is an upstanding citizen and I’m quite aware that I don’t know her personally but hey, I’m a Storm fan at heart, and we hate the SpOrks to the bone.)

Day 02  ESports Moment You’ll Never Forget

Sue Bird #10 makes a three point basket over DeWanna Bonner #24 putting the Storm up by three points with 2.8 seconds remaining. (WNBA Western Conference Finals Game 2: Phoenix Mercury 88 vs. Seattle Storm 91, US Airways Center, Phoenix, AZ. September 05,2010)

Game 2 of the 2010 Western Conference Finals. The Storm had just tied the score after being down 19 points sometime in that game and Diana Taurasi had been wreaking havoc in the Phoenix home court. Tanisha Wright waited until about 8 seconds were left in the shot clock before zipping a pass to Sue Bird who managed to shake her defender free, got her feet set, and put up probably one of the biggest shots in her career. 2.8 seconds remained and Taurasi missed the potential tying three-pointer.

Of course she did the whole Die Bitches shot again against Atlanta in the Game 1 of the Finals but that didn’t compare to the magnitude of this shot against Phoenix.

So what if I’m late to the game?

Day 01  EFavorite Sport

There’s no question about this. BASKETBALL, of course.

I played sparingly in high school, and a little bit in college. I used to follow the NBA when I was younger but I got tired of the flashiness and everything. Now, I just mostly follow women’s basketball, whether it’s the WNBA, or the Euroleagues (whenever possible), or the international competitions (FIBA, OGs), and even the women’s NCAA. I’ve also followed my local college team (the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons) when I was back home no matter how much they sucked.

Via Kevin Pelton of Storm Basketball, the following vid shows the series of all Storm scores that made up the 15-0 run that wrestled the lead away from Phoenix and ultimately capped by that massive Sue Bird three-pointer to win the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2004.
