all my pretty ones, anne sexton, Poetry, the starry night

a_dark_starry_night_wallpap

The town does not exist
except where one black-haired tree slips
up like a drowned woman into the hot sky.
The town is silent. The night boils with eleven stars.
Oh starry night! This is how
I want to die.

It moves. They are all alive.
Even the moon bulges in its orange irons
to push children, like a god, from its eye.
The old unseen serpent swallows up the stars.
Oh starry night! This is how
I want to die:

into that rushing beast of the night,
sucked up by that great dragon, to split
from my life with no flag,
no belly,
no cry.

– Anne Sexton. “The Starry Night”. All My Pretty Ones Part 1, 1962.

… you’re a direct hit and I’m sinking.

I haven’t been writing in a while. I can blame work (as usual) or just my general laziness (once again, as usual) or maybe it’s just that I don’t have much to angst about these days (naks, peaceful) or maybe I have a lot of things to say but just can’t get it all out (most likely).

But anyway, I found this awesome song while searching for LSS replacements to Halo (c/o Glee). I kinda remember that Juno song by the Moldy Peaches when I heard this one.

Anyway, check out the lyrics, I guess this song just says it all.

Music and words by Pocketbooks.

Kiss me in the autumn at the station by the drycleaners and the fellas selling travelcards
Hold my hands and tell me that The Fall will never leave me and The Actionnettes won’t break my heart
Write my name in marker pen across the local bus stop and I’ll steal you all the books you love
Call the local paper and pretend we’re getting married and I’ll borrow you my library card

You’re the blindfold round my eyes
You’re my navigation satellite
I’m a tightrope walker looking down on the sights

I don’t know what happened with your sister and her mother, but I don’t think they’re impressed with me
I don’t think they like what I’ve been doing with my life, but can’t they see it’s only temporary?
I can’t help but worry that your friend thinks I’m a daydreamer with aspirations quite naive
The only things worth chasing are the things that are creative, and I’m not talking accountancy

You’re a red hotel on Mayfair
A superlative on a triple word score
I’m a battleship, you’re a direct hit and I’m sinking

And like falling leaves in autumn you can sweep me up or pass me by
Like falling snow against your skin, or the cigarettes I can’t pack in
And falling in with you is like a Class A drug they couldn’t ban
The photograph that makes you smile and sends a shiver down your spine
Gravity’s got me falling indefinitely

I don’t think it matters my career path’s in tatters, I could always take a course or two
Tell me what you’re thinking, maybe when I’ve finished singing, I suppose this is a family tune
I think I’m addicted, I get panicked when you’re missing, I need patches when you’re not around
I have conversations in my head that you’re not party to, you should have heard the things you said!

Like an etching on my brain
Like a letter tacked on my DNA
I’m a chip pan fire, you’re the water that won’t stay away

And like falling leaves in autumn you can sweep me up or pass me by
Like falling snow against your skin, or the cigarettes I can’t pack in
You’re the blindfold round my eyes
You’re my navigation satellite
And just falling in with you is like a Class A drug they couldn’t ban
The photograph that makes you smile and sends a shiver down your spine
Gravity’s got me falling indefinitely

Tell me if it ever ends you’ll let me have my heart back in a single piece
You’re the one I call after closing time
The night bus spins to the spellbinding sound of your voice…

The US Women swept the 3-game round robin invitationals. They last defeated the defending Russian champs, UMMC Ekaterinburg, 78-63 to get the trophy and several top honors, including MVP for Angel McCoughtry and the Best Point Guard award for Sue Bird.

You can fight the fire that’s in your head
Lay it down, the hour has come to end
Walk around without her just for a bit
Looking back upon the way things had been

Man, I’ve been wasting so much time
Walking the same street every night
Don’t you think maybe it’s about time?

You can light the fire that’s in your head
Put it off, tomorrow will come instead
We don’t watch the tower that tells us when
Pull the wicked flower out from its bed

Man’s been wasting so much time
Sending the children out to fight
Don’t you think maybe it’s about time?

Chanced upon the song above while watching Skins Series 3 – a teen TV series about a group of Bristol kids that makes “Gossip Girl” a Parents Television Council gold star winner. Skins3 still offers the fluff (but not the icky kind), and the grit, and the unusual in-your-face feel to the episodes that I’ve liked since I watched Series 1. I particularly like the coloring (something looking vaguely like cross-processing and lomo~ing but I dunno) that they do on some of the episodes, particulary the Effy jumping into the lake scene and the Emily and Naomi biking into the woods one, as well.

Exploring Singapore

The Merlion

Singapore is a tiny, tiny country and some of my friends told me you could explore most of it in 4 days. But because of my stupid allergies (I know, excuses, excuses, excuses), I wasn’t able to maximize my stay there. Add to that the fact that I’m lazy as hell and so I only got to photograph a few spots. Anyhoo, few places explored whatever, my vacation was still definitely a blast.

Anyway, what’s a trip without photos, eh? The following are shots from those rare times that I actually hauled my ass out and sauntered around the streets of Singapore.

Camera: Nikon D80
Lenses: AF-S Zoom-Nikkor ED 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF DX VR (Thanks Gyabo!), Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor.
Strobe: Nikon SB-600 Continue reading »

Experiencing Phuket

phuket thailand beaches sunset islands

Phuket was amazing. But I’m not sure it’s amazing enough to compare with the beaches back in Pinas. The only thing Phuket has on Boracay or Palawan, etc is that it is very very convenient for a common traveler to go there. Also, the food was amazingly affordable, at least compared to the food prices here in Tokyo.

I enjoyed taking pictures in Patong Beach where we stayed and around the islands that were included in the tour. Here are some of those shots.
